Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S)

Deodorization Test

● About Hydrogen Sulfide

Hydrogen sulfide is heavier than air (specific gravity 1.1905), colorless, highly soluble in water, and mildly acidic. It has a strong, characteristic odor similar to rotten eggs and irritates the eyes, skin, and mucous membranes. It is a toxic gas and is classified as a specific malodor under Japan’s Odor Regulation Law.Although smells from volcanic vents or sulfur springs are often described as “sulfur-like,” sulfur itself is odorless; the smell actually comes from hydrogen sulfide.

● Test Samples

  • Sample 1: Cotton material soaked in 10% diluted UMO concentrated solution

  • Sample 2: Cotton material soaked in 5% diluted UMO concentrated solution

  • Sample 3: Cotton material soaked in 1% diluted UMO concentrated solution

  • Sample 4: Cotton material soaked in tap water

Notes:

  • 100% cotton running shirts (men’s undershirts, made in Myanmar) were used.

  • Samples were soaked for 1 hour and then dried.

● Test Method

The samples were placed in a room saturated with hydrogen sulfide gas for 2 hours. After 2 hours, the samples were removed, and the reduction rate (%) of H₂S in the room was measured to evaluate deodorization performance.

● Test Results

The analysis showed that all cotton samples soaked in UMO diluted solution reduced hydrogen sulfide gas.
